Pop Ferguson brings the blues to Stecoah Arts Center

art fergusonThe Pop Ferguson Blues Review will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, at the Stecoah Valley Cultural Arts Center in Robbinsville. 

 

A welcomed and different sound to the Grand Old Stage, 84-year-old Clyde “Pop” Ferguson is one of the last practitioners of traditional blues in the North Carolina foothills. Recordings of Ferguson’s music along with many of his stories have been selected to be in the National Museum of African-American History and Culture.

    Born and raised in Upstate New York, she eventually moved away, crossing the Mason-Dixon Line for Alabama at age 12. She carried in her mind the sounds of the 1960s folk scene of Greenwich Village in Manhattan and show tunes echoing from the record player in her childhood home. Soon, she’d cross paths down South with country and bluegrass melodies radiating from Nashville and beyond.
