Free, but limited to 150 people. Tickets will be available at the library’s youth services desk beginning at 10 a.m. the day of the program. Co-sponsored by Friends of the Jackson County Library. 828.586.2016.

Kids, want to raise lambs?

The Macon County 4-H Market Lamb Program is looking for youth ages 5 to 18 who want to learn how to raise and care for lambs. Participants must have a dry, cool place for lambs to live during the summer, provide clean feed and water and exercise lambs daily in preparation for show day. Macon County Farm Bureau supports the program and purchases lambs from the participants when it’s over. Tammara Talley, 828.349.2046.

Summer program gets kids out in the woods

A summer nature series at Cradle of Forestry will give children ages 4 to 7 a chance to explore the natural world while exploring a variety of nature-related themes.

Woodsy Owl’s Curiosity Club is held Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. to noon and 1:30 to 3 p.m. through August 4, with the ultimate mission of teaching children how to care for their public land.

Cradle of Forestry is an interpretive center run by the National Forest Service, located on U.S. 276 four miles south of the Blue Ridge Parkway about 40 minutes from Waynesville.

$4 per child per program; half-price admittance to Cradle of Forestry, $2.50, for accompanying adults. Reservations required. 828.877.3130.
