Balsam Range to perform at Stecoah

Balsam Range will headline the Annual Harvest Festival with a performance at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 16, in the Stecoah Valley Cultural Arts Center auditorium.

Balsam Range has been nominated as the Emerging Artist of the Year for 2010 by the International Bluegrass Music Association. The band’s new CD “Trains I’ve Missed” is out this month.

$15 adults. $5 K-12. Tickets can be purchased in the Stecoah Gallery, 828.479.3364 or www.stecoahvalleycenter.com.

    art theplaceMary Harper was quite possibly the first real friend I made when I moved to Western North Carolina.

    With my apartment a few blocks away from the Water’n Hole Bar & Grill in Waynesville, I ventured down there at night trying to see what was up in this town, trying to make some friends, and trying not to feel alone and isolated in a new place where I was unknown to all who surrounded me. Harper, with her million-dollar smile and swagger, immediately made me feel at home.
