Western Carolina University has won a three-year $1.23 million grant to expand the nurse anesthesia program. The grant will purchase a human patient simulator and a simulation consultant to develop simulation scenarios for anesthesia and a diversity consultant to work with students and faculty. The funding will also support faculty salaries.

Over 7,800 charities raised more than $5 million through Belk’s semi-annual Charity Sale held in April. An increase of over $400,000 over last year’s spring event was noted. The Boomerang Brain Gym at 81 Elmwood Way in Waynesville has received a grant from the Evergreen Foundation for $36,585. The funding will be used to expand the gym to include brain bikes, which integrate both physical and mental exercise.
