Ann Gill-Johnson, a member of the Sew Easy Girls Extension and Community Association, will offer a sewing class at 1 p.m. July 2, 9, and 16 in the conference room of the Community Services Center in Sylva. Other members of the Sew Easy Girls will assist Johnson. Participants will learn to make a reversible apron that could be used when cooking, crafting, gardening or babysitting and a handbag that features six outside pockets to hold small items that usually fall to the bottom of a regular pocketbook. The size of the bag can be adjusted to create a shopping bag as well.
The workshop is free, but participants will need to supply their own materials and sewing notions. Space in the workshop is limited.

Stephen Dobyns has written 20 novels and more than 10 volumes of poetry; however, he is difficult to “classify.” His writing is praised by big league names as varied as Francine Prose and Stephen King, but he is most famous for a “sexual harassment” charge brought against him while he was teaching at Syracuse University (allegedly, he was overheard making “salty and crude” comments at a party).
