Poetry collective comes to WCU

art striversThe Arts and Cultural Events Performance Series continues with The Strivers Row Poetry Show at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, in the Bardo Arts Center at Western Carolina University.

The performance poetry collective performed at venues ranging from the Sundance Film Festival to President Obama’s evening of music and poetry at the White House. For the artists involved, poetry is not just a form of entertainment, but also a vehicle for transformation. The show is recommended for individuals age 16 and older. All tickets are $5.

    art theplaceMary Harper was quite possibly the first real friend I made when I moved to Western North Carolina.

    With my apartment a few blocks away from the Water’n Hole Bar & Grill in Waynesville, I ventured down there at night trying to see what was up in this town, trying to make some friends, and trying not to feel alone and isolated in a new place where I was unknown to all who surrounded me. Harper, with her million-dollar smile and swagger, immediately made me feel at home.
