WCU to offer courses at Harrah’s

Western Carolina University is taking its masters in business degree on the road to Cherokee, offering MBA coursework at Harrah’s Cherokee Casino for part-time students over a three-year period starting in spring 2014. 

WCU will host an information session for prospective MBA students from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, and from 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 24, at Harrah’s Cherokee Casino. Raising healthy kids

A talk called “It Takes a Village: Raising Active and Healthy Children” will be held at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 4, at Western Carolina University.

The speaker, Robert Pangrazi, professor emeritus from Arizona State University, has been recognized with awards from the National Association for Sport and Physical Education, the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, and the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. Lake J golf benefit

The third annual Wesley Golf Classic will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 20, at the Lake Junaluska Golf Course to raise money for The Wesley Foundation, a Methodist campus ministry at Western Carolina University.

The funds raised will sponsor Wednesday night Bible studies, Thursday night student-led worship services, local service projects such as Meals on Wheels and firewood for the elderly in Jackson County. The entry fee is $50 for an individual who will be put on a team upon arrival or $200 per team of four.

WCU celebrates international cultures

Western Carolina University will celebrate world cultures and traditions at its 34th annual International Festival from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, at the A.K. Hinds University Center.

Dance and musical performances by international groups begin at 10:10 a.m. Campus and community organizations with international ties will also host information, food and craft booths.

Swain County chamber banquet

Swain County Chamber of Commerce Annual Membership Banquet will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 18, at the Fryemont Inn in Bryson City.

The evening will feature food, entertainment, door prizes and chamber awards. Advance tickets are $25 per person or $30 per person the week of the event.
