Ghost Town goes silver screen

Dean Teaster’s Ghost Town “The Movie” will premiere at the Eaglenest Entertainment Center in Maggie Valley at 7 p.m. on June 2.

The movie was filmed at Ghost Town in the Sky, North Carolina’s top western theme park attraction that opened originally in 1961 and is re-opening on May 25.

The premiere will be a gala event with an afterglow celebration with some of the movies stars in attendance. Following the premiere will be a “Limited Theatrical Engagement” to run through October 2007 at Eaglenest Entertainment Center.

The film was written by Dean Teaster and DJ Perry as a tribute to Teaster’s father, Robert Doyle Teaster. Robert Teaster was Ghost Town’s one-time gunfighter “Digger the Undertaker,” a character made famous by him in 1962. This film captures some of the Ghost Town gunfighters acts from 1962, as well as the 1800’s mountain legend of Harmon Teaster, Dean’s great, great, grandfather. It brings these elements together in a story of love, revenge, and gunfights.

Appearing in the film are the two mountain men from John Boorman’s “Deliverance,” who have not been seen together since 1972. They were voted the number one movie villains of all time in 2005 by Maxim Magazine. Herbert “Cowboy” Coward and Bill McKinney carry the story of brutal mountain revenge while other stars like Rance Howard, Renee O’Connor, Charles Matteau, Terence Knox, and country music stars Sammy Kershaw and Stella Parton all take the story through its twists of love, hate, and murder in he 1800’s. Director Dean Teaster reprises his father’s character “Digger the Undertaker.”

Screeners will be sent out after June 2 to studios in Hollywood for distribution considerations. This movie has been called the first “Eastern Western” by Bob Terrell of the Asheville Citizen Times, perhaps a new genre.

Tickets for Eaglenest’s premiere gala and showing of the film are $100 for VIP seating and $75 for general seating. All seating is reserved. The movie will continue showing at Eaglenest weekly through October. For ticket information about the premier call Eaglenest Entertainment at 828.926.9658 or visit www.eaglenestnc.com.
