New public river access launched along Tuckasegee

out shookcoveThree new public access sites and boat put-ins have been developed along the Tuckasegee River in Jackson County:

• Shook Cove access area, which features a boat ramp, vegetated rain gardens and parking.

• Tuckasegee Powerhouse access area, which features a boat ramp and parking.

• Tanasee Creek access area, which features a paved entrance, gravel boat launch and parking.

They were installed by Duke Energy as a requirement of its hydropower licenses on the Tuckasegee and will be maintained by the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission.

“These enhancements were performed with quality, sustainability and long-term maintenance considerations in mind,” said John Crutchfield, director of public safety and recreation strategy planning services for Duke Energy.
