Franklin’s fracking forum

A fracking forum has been scheduled for Sept. 2 in Franklin. The forum, moderated by Sen. Jim Davis, R-Franklin, will address shale energy rulemaking, exploration and development in North Carolina. 

The Franklin fracking forum will also feature Jim Womack, immediate past chair of the state’s Mining and Energy Commission. The commission is currently conducting public hearings concerning the rule making process associated with hydraulic fracturing in the state. 

Womack will present : statutory guidelines from the NC General Assembly;Mining and Energy Commission’s organization and rulemaking process;what we know about shale energy deposits in the Triassic Basin;potential benefits from developing shale resources;“myths and urban legends about shale energy development.”

Following Womack’s presentation, Sen. Davis will moderate an extensive Q & A with the audience and an expert panel of guests who are familiar with the NC shale energy program, environmental issues, and related legislation.

Science-based, peer-reviewed handouts will be available. Also available for review will be DVD’s, books, papers, and maps that provide authoritative information on the subject of shale energy.
