Saturday school on tap for Haywood County kids

Haywood County Schools have pulled the trigger on Saturday school, announcing that this Saturday (Jan. 30) will be a snow make-up day. School will dismiss at 12 p.m.

Haywood students have been out of school for a week-and-a-half. The unscheduled winter vacation nearly rivals the Christmas break in length. It started with MLK day last Monday, a teacher workday Tuesday, followed by five snow days.

While five days of missed school seems like a lot, that's average for

Haywood Schools at this time of year. The warm start to winter meant no missed days for snow until the latest bout.

The last day of school was going to be Friday, June 3, but it's common to go until the middle of June as snow days get tacked on to the end of the year.
