Butterfly highway coming to N.C.

A network of pollinator pit stops will begin spreading across the state with the launch of the Butterfly Highway Campaign, a program of the N.C. Wildlife Federation.

The statewide initiative aims to restore habitats for butterflies, bees and birds, creating a network of green spaces and pollinator gardens that will thread throughout North Carolina. It’s free to join and register a garden or green space as pollinator-friendly habitat.

“We began the Butterfly Highway project with several Charlotte communities that wanted to beautify their environment through planting gardens. Through the project, the communities transformed community gardens, backyard gardens, public spaces and park fragments into new pollinator and wildlife habitats,” said Angel Hjarding, director of pollinator and wildlife habitat programs.
