Multiple school campuses on lock down

Around noon today, a telephone call was made to local law enforcement. The caller made threatening comments about Canton Middle School.

Law enforcement immediately notified Haywood County Schools and a decision was made to lock down Canton Middle School, Pisgah High School, Meadowbrook Elementary School, Bethel Middle School, Bethel Elementary School and North Canton Elementary School.

Canton Middle School was also evacuated to the football field due to the nature of the telephone call.

Principal Todd Barbee, of Canton Middle School, will send a voice message out shortly informing parents about procedures for checking out and picking up students.

The other schools mentioned above are on soft lock downs for precautionary purposes. School administrators expect those schools to dismiss using their normal procedures.

More  information will be provided as it becomes available.
