Dr. Ralph Stanley and the Clinch Mountain Boys will bring traditional bluegrass music to the stage of the Smoky Mountain Center for the Performing Arts at 7:30 p.m. Aug.11. Stanley is known for his distinctive singing and banjo playing. He began his career performing with his brother, Carter. Together, they were known as The Stanley Brothers. When Carter passed in 1966, Stanley ventured out on his own with his band, the Clinch Mountain Boys.
In 1992 and again in 2000, he was inducted into the International Bluegrass Music Hall of Honor. And in 2002, he won a Grammy for his work in the film “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” The Clinch Mountain Boys is made up of Stanley’s son, Ralph Stanley II; his grandson, Nathan; Dewey Brown; Jimmy Cameron; James Alan Shelton; and Mitchell Van Dyke. Their musical talents include fiddle, bass, mandolin, guitar and banjo.
