WestCare supporters vie for ‘Disco King and Queen’

Six professionals are hoping to be crowned Disco King and Queen, based on donations they collect for the MedWest-Harris & Swain Foundation as part of the Foundation’s biggest fundraiser of the year – “That ‘70s Gala,” an evening of dancing, dining and a silent auction.

The event begins at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 25 at Harrah’s Cherokee Casino & Hotel Event Center in Cherokee.

The money the Disco King and Queen candidates are raising will be used along with other Gala proceeds to renovate MedWest-Harris’ mother and baby suites. Through the years, the event has raised funds to provide free mammograms to underserved women in Jackson and Swain counties and to purchase equipment like a digital mammography system and laboratory and nuclear medicine technology.

People can vote or donate by calling the individual contestant.

This year’s Disco King candidates are:

Howard D. Allman, the owner of Nationwide Insurance in Sylva. 828.586.2923.

Jim Miller, associate vice chancellor for development at Western Carolina University. 828.227.7124.

Charles H. Toledo, a pediatrician with WNC Pediatric and Adolescent Care in Sylva. 828.586.9642.

The Disco Queen candidates are:
