Cruso quilting group to hold annual show

art quiltsThe Cruso Friendship Club will host its 23rd Quilt Show Aug. 24-25 at the Cruso Community Center on U.S. 276 South. The show will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Members of Cruso Friendship Club Tuesday’s quilting group pieced their hand-quilted queen-sized donation quilt “Cinnamon Pinwheel” together. The quilt will go to a winner at 4 p.m. Saturday. Raffle tickets $1 or six for $5, and the proceeds will provide two scholarships to Pisgah High School students, baskets for shut-ins, support to the community center food pantry and the continued renovation of the Cruso Schoolhouse.

Quilting technique demonstrations will be held at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Friday and at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday

The quilts featured at the show are family antique heirlooms, traditional and artistic quilts, wall hangings and wearable art — all displayed in the school’s auditorium and hallway.

Featured in the classrooms are antique sewing machine display/sales by Sherry Verse; fabric sales by J-Creek Fabrics; quilting supplies/notions and long-arm quilting information by Lisa Mann; sewing machine repair and scissor sharpening by Gene Champion and the Friendship Club “Quilter’s Gift Basket” corner where you can find unique gifts.

Admission is free and Riverhouse Acres will provide lunch.
