Meet candidates and dance to the oldies at Bethel Sock Hop

A Sock Hop and a meet-the-candidates event will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. on Aug. 21 at Juke Box Junction in Bethel.

There will be hamburgers, hot dogs, sides and sodas, and much like the sock hops of old, the music provided is strictly from the early stars of rock ’n roll. There will also be raffles for baskets and an antique car show.

All candidates for local elections have been invited for a meet-and-greet, so you can get to know those who might become the leaders of our communities.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under.  In addition, each person is asked to bring a new pair of socks to be given as a charitable donation to the Salvation Army.

At our inception 20 years ago, we chose to be different. Unlike other news organizations, we made the decision to provide in-depth, regional reporting free to anyone who wanted access to it. We don’t plan to change that model. Support from our readers will help us maintain and strengthen the editorial independence that is crucial to our mission to help make Western North Carolina a better place to call home. If you are able, please support The Smoky Mountain News.
