‘Taking Sides’ opens winter season at HART’s Feichter Studio
SMN

The Haywood Arts Regional Theater opens its winter season in the Feichter Studio Theater at the Performing Arts Center on Jan. 9 with the drama “Taking Sides.”

The production, which was originally staged at the former Artists Resource Center in Asheville last summer, received rave reviews and prompted HART Executive Director Steve Lloyd to arrange for the show to transfer to Waynesville.

The play, by Ronald Harwood, is set in post-Word War II occupied Berlin and focuses on the De-Nazification Tribunal’s questioning of a famed conductor suspected of being a Nazi collaborator. The play is based on a true story and has been called a taut, chilling drama which examines the confrontation between culture and power, art and politics. The production is being directed by Andrew Gall, director of Highland Repertory Theater in Asheville, and features Lloyd Kay, Jeff Messer, Tyler Cloherty, David Hopes, Matt Shephard and Susan Bradford.

Productions in the HART Studio are picked by the actors and directors in the community. Works are not picked by the HART Board and the productions are presented as written. The Studio seats only 70 people in an intimate setting. The Studio productions at HART have been some of the group’s most popular, and regularly sell out. Even though seating is general admission reservations are recommended. HART has won national awards for two of its Studio productions in past seasons.

Performances are Friday and Saturday, Jan. 9 and 10, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Jan. 11, at 3 p.m. All seats are $8 and reservations can be made by calling the HART Box Office at 828.456.6322. Performances are in the Feichter Studio at the Performing Arts Center at the Shelton House, 250 Pigeon Street in downtown Waynesville.
