The Jackson County Department On Aging in Sylva has been awarded
$7,000 to purchase aluminum ramp sections for its Project CARE wheelchair
ramp program. These aluminum ramp sections will allow Project CARE
to put up temporary wheelchair ramps until volunteers can come together
to build permanent wooden wheelchair ramps for disabled seniors.
Last year, Project CARE built 45 ramps, installed three porch landings which allow for the connection of wheelchair ramps on mobile homes, installed nine handrails and 78 grab bars. However, more could be done, said the Department on Aging’s Administrative Assistant Al Bouchard.
