The Canary Coalition, the only grassroots organization with the sole mission
of bringing clean air back to Western North Carolina and the greater
region, has received a grant of $25,000 from the Z. Smith Reynolds
Foundation.
The grant will go towards supporting the expansion of the Canary
Coalitions clean air public education and outreach program.
The Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation, with assets of approximately $520
million, was founded in 1936 and is headquartered in Winston-Salem.
Its mission is to preserve and to improve the quality of life for
all of the residents of North Carolina and only funds projects within
the state.
Free presentations on the importance of good air quality, the dangers
of air pollution, and what the average citizen can do, are now available
from the Canary Coalition to all classrooms, civic organizations,
organizational boards, local government officials, religious organizations
and social groups.
The Canary Coalition is currently conducting a membership drive
throughout the region to amplify its message and help fund its continuing
operation. For more information call the Canary Coalition office
