Young music students take stage in Haywood
SMN

The Performing Arts Center at the Shelton House will host the Fourth Annual Music Students’ Honor Recital at 3 p.m. on March 16.

The Haywood County Arts Council, in conjunction with the Haywood Arts Repertory Theater, is sponsoring this event. Sixteen area teachers will be represented by 28 talented students. The students range from 9 years old to seniors in high school. Several of them are seasoned veterans of past honors recitals.

Beethoven, Bach, Joplin and Copeland will have the honor of being performed by these talented musicians. Copeland’s “The Cat and The Mouse” will be performed along with narration. In addition to pianists, there will be a harpist, a cellist, violinists and vocalists in solos and ensembles.

According to recital organizer Martha Wright, the purpose of the performance is to give music students a place to showcase their talent.

“We want to recognize talented young people and to encourage them to excel in music by providing an opportunity to perform before a supportive and enthusiastic audience,” said Wright. “It also gives families with young children the chance to expose them to fine music.”

Following the performance, there will be a reception in the lobby. There is no admission charge, but donations to help support music programs for young people are gratefully received.
