The Haywood Commission for a Clean County has honored 10 individuals and groups for their efforts in cleaning up after the September twin floods.

The 10 awards went to: Andy Brown, Waynesville; Bill and Betti Bumgardner, Clyde; Clyde Central United Methodist Church; the NC DOT Road Maintenance crew, Clyde; Donny Francis, Canton; Paul Munoz, Maggie Valley; Neal Lipham, Canton; the Salvation Army; the Haywood Baptist Association and the North Carolina Baptist Men.

“The CCC recognizes many folks worked night and day to help clean up, and we thank them all,” said Bob Phillips, chairman of the CCC and former Canton mayor.

Helping residents understand that a clean county raises property values and attracts businesses that provide jobs to residents is one of the main goals of the CCC. Another is to educate school children about the importance of a litter-free environment. The ceremony was held at Waynesville Country Club on Feb. 23.
