Balsam Mountain Inn to host award-winning trio
SMN

Balsam Mountain Inn brings together a trio of award-winning songwriters for its popular Songwriters in the Round series on Saturday, March 12.

The featured songwriters are Nashville lyricists Thom Shepherd, Steve Williams and Will Rambeaux. Collectively, they have written lyrics for such famous acts as Faith Hill, George Strait, Tim McGraw, John Michael Montgomery, Buddy Jewel, Kathy Mattea, Ronnie Milsap, David Ball, Patty Loveless, Lee Greenwood and Sherrie Austin.

Three of Rambeaux’s songs have reached No. 1 on the charts — “How Was I to Know” and “Hold on to Me” by John Michael Montgomery, and “Wild One” by Faith Hill.

Shepherd penned David Ball’s hit “Riding with Private Malone,” which climbed to No. 2 on the Billboard charts and No. 1 on the Gavin charts.

The three songwriters are close friends and have collaborated on lyrics, which should make for an interesting evening as they tell stories about their famous songs and how each came to be. The stories are followed by acoustic performances.

“We know each others’ songs, we write together all the time, and have really good chemistry,” Shepherd said. “Some of the most interesting songs I’ve written have been with them.”

The performance will be held at the inn’s 100-seat Seven Springs at Balsam restaurant. Dinner will be served prior to he performance, which begins at 7:30 p.m. Cover charge is $7 per person, plus dinner charge (about $24-$27). Reservations are encouraged as most sessions sell out.

The Balsam Mountain Inn is located just off U.S. 23/74 between Waynesville and Sylva. For info or reservations call the inn at 828.456.9498.
