Workshop planned on Haywood slope ordinance

Contractors, developers, realtors and land owners are invited to attend a workshop on the Haywood County Slope Ordinance from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. on March 28 in the conference room of Haywood County Annex II, located at 1233 N. Main St. in Waynesville.

The workshop is designed to explain the procedure of applying for a Slope Construction Permit; explain the roles of the county engineer and the engineering review board in the administration and enforcement of the ordinance; and describe the role of the ordinance in obtaining a certificate of occupancy and subdivision plat approval.

In addition, participants will be able to ask questions and discuss the past, present and future of the one-year old ordinance.

DOT holds hearing on SCC connector road

North Carolina Department of Transportation officials are seeking public opinion about a proposed connector road that would alleviate some of the traffic congestion along N.C. 107 to Southwestern Community College in Jackson County.

DOT plans to build a .7-mile connector road from N.C. 107 to N.C. 116. The road will begin at the campus’ first entrance and run behind the library to N.C. 107 and the Evans Road intersection. The public meeting is on April 8 at the Balsam Center Auditorium at Southwestern Community College in Sylva.

Attendees can also discuss the project with DOT officials and submit written comments. The meeting begins at 5 p.m. For more information call 828.586.2141.
