Waynesville’s
annual Quickdraw kicks-off April 30 SMN
Waynesville’s fifth annual QuickDraw opens local artists’
studio doors from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. April 30, as they showcase the
action of art.
A quickdraw is a time-dependent live-action exhibit of professional artists, which enables the observer to watch art in the making. “Live-action” artists start and complete original works of art in sixty minutes.
Typically, live action artists work in pastel, oils, watercolor, and acrylic, along with several highly organized stained glass, wood, metal, and jewelry artisans.
Other participating artists demonstrate their techniques in step-intensive media such as pottery, silk painting, fused glass, jewelry, woodwork, furniture painting, fabric and textile art, paper art and more. These artists do not complete their pieces on site, but offer separate completed works for sale at silent auction. Artists donate half or more of a work’s sale price to boost art in the schools.
QuickDraw proceeds provide QuickDraw tickets for promising high school artists, two $500 scholarships for high school students, and fund mini-grants to every art teacher in Haywood county schools.
Tickets to QuickDraw are $25 each, which includes heavy hors d’oeuvres.
Tickets are available at several downtown Waynesville galleries:
Cedar Hill, Deja View, Iron Horse, Ridge Runner Naturals, Twigs
& Leaves, as well as the Haywood County Arts Council. To purchase
tickets by phone or provide a ticket for a student, call 828.456.3003.
