Art
sales to benefit Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy SMN
Waynesville artist Teresa Pennington has created a colored drawing
of the Highlands of Roan, from which 25 percent of sales will go
to benefit the Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy.
“The mountains have always provided inspiration for me,” Pennington said. “This is the least that I can do to help give back to the mountains where I grew up.”
SAHC often works with artists to raise money to protect land. The partnerships are an important two-way street, as the mountain views and wild plant and animal life that land trusts protect are sources of creative expression and artists can convey the importance of safeguarding special places, said SAHC Associate Director Kristy Urquhart.
“Teresa has a way of capturing the emotional experience of a place in her work,” Urquhart said.
The drawing of the Roan is on display at Pennington’s gallery on Main Street in Waynesville. Prints of the work cost $15 to $175, and a box of note cards costs $15. For more information about the SAHC, call 828.253.0095.
