SCC’s Student Government Association wins national award

SMN

The Student Government Association at Southwestern Community College recently won a national award from the Association for the Promotion of Campus Activities.

The award was for the SGA’s lecture and demonstration series known as “Lunch ’N Learn.”

“Southwestern Community College’s SGA competed against much larger schools like Annapolis and Harvard-Radcliffe to win this prestigious award,” said SGA Advisor Steve Conlin. “I think the thing that amazed the selection committee was the shoe-string budget that Southwestern’s SGA has to sponsor speakers like Dr. William Bass, who is involved in the Tri-State Crematory investigation in Georgia and whose students have been investigating the aftermath of the World Trade Center collapse.”

Other Lunch ’N Learn Events have included Pulitzer Prize nominee Chet Dettlinger, author of “The List” about the Atlanta Child Murders in the early 1980’s, and John Hopkins, on “Scams, Pickpockets and Card Sharks.”

On August 14, the SGA will sponsor nationally recognized motivational speaker Troy Stende in Bradford Hall presenting “Majoring in Success!”
