  Jackson Memorial Day service planned
SMN

A Memorial Day Ceremony will be held at noon on May 29 at the fountain in front of the old Jackson County Courthouse.

The guest speaker will be retired Lt. Col. Hugh Moon of the U.S. Army. Members of the Smoky Mountain High School Chorus will sing. A Flag Ceremony by the American Legion Post 104 of Sylva will also be a part of the program. A memorial wreath will be presented to Mr. Bill Collins, who is a Pearl Harbour survivor, in memory of veterans that lost their lives defending our country. Rep. Charles Taylor’s representative will present a flag, which will hang on the flag pole in front of the old courthouse in memory of those same veterans that made the ultimate sacrifice.

All veterans, past and present, will also be honored.

In case of bad weather the ceremony will be held in the old courthouse. Contact Russ Bauer, Jackson County Veterans Office, at 828.631.2294 for more information.
