| << Back 6/5/02 Swain Center for the Arts plans drama on Columbine shootings SMN The following exhibits and special events are planned for June at the Swain County Center for the Arts. For more informationi call 828.488.7843 or email eugenia@dnet.net. ° On Exhibit — Original acrylic, pastel and mixed media paintings by Roger Stephens of Cullowhee will be on exhibit in the lobby until the end of July. Subjects of the 65 paintings include Smoky Mountain landscapes, tropical seascapes and Maya visionary work. Also on exhibit are a collection of more than 40 woodcarvings and wood burnings of animals, feathers and other objects by Elesa Osman of Sylva. All of the paintings and most of the carvings are for sale. In addition, selected pieces from our permanent collection, including our Cherokee Indian arts and crafts, remain on exhibit. ° June 12 Movie — Swain County Schools Summer Adventure Program 1-4 p.m. in the auditorium ° June 15 — Relay for Life and a Womanless Beauty Contest. Sponsored by Smoky Mountain Marine. Come out for an evening of hilarity — 5-6:15 p.m. — Barbecue Supper ($4) in the amphitheater outside. — 6:3-9 p.m. — Beauty Contest in the Auditorium. Adults $5 in advance, $6 at the door; children 12 and under $3. ° June 17-21 — Aquaponics Course. Combining of aquaculture and hydroponics. Five-day course sponsored by Aquaculture International. Special rates for residents of Western North Carolina. ° July 19 — A dramatic presentation of Columbine shooting by Piedmont Players of Piedmont Baptist College. ° July 22 — Folkmoot USA brings three international dance groups sponsored by Swain Chamber of Commerce on July 22 at 7 p.m. Call Jenny Johnson at 488.7843 to reserve the Center for the Arts for your own event. The facility is available for use at no charge to non-profit groups until at least July 2002. For profit individuals or groups will be asked to pay the custodians hourly rate.
