Volunteers at Haywood Regional Medical Center Hospital Volunteers will have a “Proud to be an American” display in the lobby of the Medical Center during the month of June. The display honors the men and women of the U.S. military, both past and present, who serve and defend the country. Everyone is invited to participate by reserving a place on the display. The cost to honor an individual is $5 and forms are available at the information desk in the lobby.

The month-long exhibit will conclude with a patriotic celebration at 2 p.m. on June 26 at the hospital entrance. Guest speaker is Linton Palmer, former chairman of the HRMC Board of Commissioners; music to be provided by Chip Hendricks, First Baptist Church of Waynesville; and Taps played by Julie Howard, ASAP Communications. The Sylva Rotary Club will hold its 3rd Annual Bluegrass and BBQ fund-raising event on June 17 at Smoky Mountain High School football stadium. Featured performers include multi-award winning Larry Cordle and Lonesome Standard Time, with special guests Whitewater Bluegrass Company featuring Grammy winner Marc Pruett.
