Haywood Library Friends expect record book sale

SMN

The annual Haywood County Public Library Book Sale will be held July 25 to 27.

“Our shelves are full, the floor is covered and we’re overflowing with books,” said Sandy Denman, new chairman of the sale.

Workers are busy sorting books and getting them ready for the popular event which draws large crowds each summer.

Denman said that workers began with an empty room this year, so “all new” used books will be featured. The library’s collection has been weeded at each branch, and many private donations have come in. In addition, a large number of coffee table books are on the shelves, as well as children’s books and those for young adults.

Always sought after, cookbooks are overflowing their section. “We have lots of old books,” with a number of first editions, says the chairman. Also included are some large print books and a good number of new paperbacks.

Workers have spent Tuesday mornings for the past 4-6 weeks sorting and shelving the books. Denman noted that on a recent workday 900 books were set out in just a few hours.

Sale prices for books will be: hardbacks, $1; paperbacks, 50 cents, and children’s books, 50 cents. First editions and special books will have individual prices.

This year’s sale will also initiate a new ”Search a Book Service.” With an application and a $2 fee, patrons may request books they are looking for. They will be notified if the books are found and quoted a price. Arrangements will be made for pickup or delivery. Applications for this service will be available at the sale and at all library checkout desks.

Hours are: Thursday, July 25, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Friday, July 26, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Saturday, July 27, 9 a.m. to early afternoon.
