| << Back 7/10/02 Clyde breaks ground on Russ Ave. SMN Clyde Savings Bank broke ground Monday (July 8) at the site of its new banking facility on Russ Avenue in Waynesville. The new facility will offer what banking officials are calling state-of-the-art banking with easy access, multiple drive-up lanes, ample parking, and a drive-up ATM for 24-hour banking. Ed Broadwell, president and chief executive officer of Clyde Savings Bank, said the new branch is the culmination of much hard work and is a symbol of the banks strong relationship with Haywood County. Clyde Savings Bank has served the citizens of Haywood County and Western North Carolina for over 75 years, noted Ed Broadwell. Weve helped generations of local folks to own homes and provide a secure financial future for their families. Today, were very proud to get started on this beautiful facility, which will be our new home in Waynesville. Assistant Vice President and Waynesville Branch Manager Patsy Rogers said, This is a proud day for all of us at Clyde Savings Bank. We believe everyone in the community will take pride in this facility. The groundbreaking culminated a nearly three-year process of negotiations between Clyde Savings, the town of Waynesville and the Department of Transportation to settle on a building design and how traffic would be handled. Russ Avenue in front of where the bank will be located is the busiest road in Waynesville, moving 32,000 vehicles a day. The town approved the banks plans after the Department of Transportation said the design would adequately move vehicles. The bank will have a right turn in-right turn out onto Russ Avenue. I believe that this is a model for how we can adapt to Waynesvilles walkable community concept in the future, said contractor Larry Clark of Clark and Leatherwood Construction. Peggy Melville, vice president/re-gional manager, said, Clyde Savings Bank has been part of Haywood Countys history and we will be part of its successful future as well by making this significant investment right here where our roots are. |
