| << Back 7/17/02 Twigs Gallery featured in craft magazine SMN A profile of Twigs & Leaves, a downtown Waynesville art gallery, is included in the July issue of The Crafts Report, a national monthly magazine for the professional crafts industry. The magazine, which began publishing in 1975, is aimed at the professional craftsperson and crafts retailers. It has been called the Wall Street Journal of the crafts industry. Twigs & Leaves, which opened on Waynesvilles Main Street in 1998, is owned and operated by Kaaren Stoner and David Erickson. The work of more than 150 artists is featured in the gallery and all pieces have a nature theme, either by design or use of color. The gallery also includes pottery by Stoner, who has a studio on the main floor of the gallery, which allows visitors to watch her at work. Erickson said it was a real honor to be profiled in a two-page spread in the magazine. We read the magazine religiously; it is an important part of our lives, Erickson said. It feels very good to get that kind of recognition. It makes us feel like what we wanted to achieve — which was to operate a studio and gallery in a small town and to work with local artists — has been recognized as a successful formula by our peers in the crafts trade. Since the article appeared, Erickson said he had received more emails and more submissions from artists. There are more artists seeking us out, Erickson said. Some of them are sending pictures of objects that are very special. This magazine exposure could have the added benefit of allowing us to work with more artists. The magazine is available by calling 800.777.7098 or online at www.craftsreport.com. For more information, contact Twigs & Leaves at 828.456.1940. |
