SCC offers webmaster certification

SMN

Southwestern Community College was recently selected to be a Certified Internet Webmaster (CIW) Authorized Academic Partner.

This distinction allows Southwestern to offer Certified Internet Webmaster classes either in the classroom or on-line. These certifications establish that those who achieve it have reached certain levels of knowledge as a web developer and a web master.

The certification is a vendor-neutral certification. In order to gain CIW certification, students must pass the CIW Foundation’s exam. CIW is the world’s largest information technology job-role certification program. In Certification magazine’s 2002 salary survey, CIW was ranked third-highest in the top 10 Information Technology certifications for affecting salary increases.

Southwestern is stepping outside the realm of the traditional classroom by offering the classes on-line beginning this fall. Instructor Scott Cline, who oversees the Internet Technologies program at SCC, will teach these new classes.

“We feel that offering this class on-line will give full-time workers the opportunity to obtain a certification, while fitting the class needed around their schedule” said Cline. “We are hoping to incorporate higher levels of the CIW certification in future online classes. This class will be the stepping stone up to the other classes.”

Students who complete this coursework should be able to successfully complete the CIW Foundation’s exam. Students who pass this exam will earn the CIW Associate Certification.
