The Balsam Mountains Bluegrass Jamboree kicks off its 17th season
July 9 with an open, on-stage jam session at 10 a.m. followed by
an entire day’s worth of music with more than 20 groups from
across the south.
The Jamboree, held at the Community Services Center in Sylva, boasts bluegrass, gospel, mountain and country music with championship cloggers and mountain dancers. Headlining the show is Blue Persuasion from Hartselle, Ala. Also playing are the Clinch Valley Bluegrass Boys from Tennessee, the Moron Brothers from Kentucky and local favorites The Deitz Family, Clay Ballew and Smoky Mountain Strings.
The Balsam Mountains Bluegrass Jamboree is a fundraiser for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of western North Carolina, which provides once in a lifetime opportunities for a child in Haywood, Jackson, Macon or Swain County who is facing a life threatening illness. The July 9 jamboree is one of three that will be held this year. Other jamboree dates are Aug. 13 and Oct. 1.
Admission to the festival is $10 for adults. Children under 12 are admitted free. The Community Services Center is located behind Harris Regional Hospital in Sylva. Festival signs will be posted.
