This is the response of U.S. Rep. Charles Taylor, R-Brevard, to the National Democratic Party labeling him as one of worst ethical offenders in Congress.

Why are the liberals who are in charge of the Democratic Party – such as Nancy Pelosi and Howard Dean, who think no Democrat can be a Christian, or Sen. Richard Durbin, who compares our soldiers to Nazis – so desperate to get rid of Charles Taylor? Given their propensity for ignoring the truth, and the fact that their only solution to any problem is to attack the Republican Party, it’s not surprising that the DCCC would spend so much money to rehash the same old distortions.

So why do the Washington liberals attack Charles Taylor? Because they support gay marriage; he does not. They support partial-birth abortion; he does not. They pushed Clinton’s NAFTA and Taylor voted against it. They reject private property rights, but Taylor supports the Fifth Amendment. They vote against the right to keep and bear arms; Taylor thinks that the Second Amendment and the Constitution itself are non-negotiable. They support wasting tax dollars on projects like Ted Kennedy’s multi-billion dollar “Big Dig” in Boston; Taylor supports bringing federal funds back to our area’s schools, and helping WNC recover from hurricanes and flood damage.

Charles Taylor votes the wishes of the people of WNC and not of the liberal DC special interests. That’s why the DCCC attacks Charles Taylor, and why they are again trying to buy our voice in Congress with a Washington-based, cookie-cutter assault. In the past, the voters of WNC only had to put up with this kind of negative campaigning a few weeks before the election. Now, even without a candidate, the Washington liberals will be subjecting WNC to a year and a half of negative campaigning.
