| << Back 8/14/02 WCU to honor Sept. 11 families, victims SMN Mary Kay Bauer wants to hear from those who were significantly affected by the terrorist attacks last Sept. 11 when commercial airliners were hijacked and flown into buildings in New York and Washington, D.C. Were looking for people who lost someone, people who were tied directly to events of that day, said Bauer, a Western Carolina University music professor. WCU is sponsoring a special on-campus event Sept. 11 to honor the heroes of that day and others whose lives were changed forever. Beginning at 5:30 p.m. on the lawn of the University Center at the bell tower, there will be speakers. One will be Phillip Lovin, an emergency medical technician from this area who arrived in New York on Sept. 12 He is really an incredible person, said Bauer. Chancellor John Bardo will also speak. About 8 p.m., there will be a concert sponsored by the music department. Anyone who was affected and wants to take part in the remembrance should call WCU Professor Mary Kay Bauer at 828.227.3275. |
