| << Back 8/21/02 Gallery One features work of professionally untrained SMN Gallery Ones exhibit of art by the professionally untrained opened at 7 p.m. Aug. 16, and all works will remain in the downtown Sylva gallery through Sept. 18. As part of the show, writer and artist Gary Carden will give a lecture on Outsider Art on Aug. 23 at 7 p.m. With a display of 49 works and 21 artists, artistic mediums and techniques ran the gamut form pencis sketches (James Plummer) and linoleum prints (Michele Sperber) to wood mosaics (Lebern Dills), carved gourds (Susan Davis), chalk composition (Ireme Hooper) and airbrush andarcylic compositions (Glenn L. Walker). The most popular mediums were water color (11 paintings) and oils (nine paintings), with several works in colored pencil (Natalie Bucki), ink drawings and photographs (David Trantham.) There were 10 compositions in acrylic, cardboard and canvas (Gary Carden). Among the most vibrant and visually exciting compositions, theworks of Glenn L. Walker are especially noteworthy. His three large compositions, M.J. Memories, Father, Can We Go Fishing and Always Remember are among the most memorable in the exhibit.
