Birds:
° Double crested cormorant, semipalmated plover, killdeer, dowitcher
sp., stilt sandpiper, least sandpiper, semipalmated sandpiper, spotted
sandpiper, western sandpiper, pectoral sandpiper, greater yellowlegs,
lesser yellowlegs, great egret and blue-winged teal (Rankin Bottoms,
from TN listserv)
° Western grebe (Norris Lake, near Knoxville, TN)
Bugs at Rankin Bottoms:
° Butterflies; zebra swallowtail, eastern tiger swallowtail,
spicebush swallowtail, cloudless sulphur, gulf fritillary, viceroy,
silver-spotted skipper, least skipper and sachem (from TN listserv)
° Dragonflys; blue-fronted dancer, common whitetail, eastern
amber wing and wandering glider (from TN listserv)
Wildflowers:
° A beautiful stand of cardinal flower, Lobelia cardinalis,
along with New York ironweed, Vernonia noveboracensis, Joe-pye weed,
Eupatorium fistulosum and wingstem, Verbesina alternifolia ( at
the intersection of U.S. 276 & Raccoon Rd.)
° Mallow, Hibiscus sp.(Lake Junaluska near the dam, opposite
side from Lambuth Inn - dont know if its an escape or
what, didnt have a guide with me when I saw it, 8/25, Don
Hendershot)
