This year the Haywood County Arts Council presents the 14th Annual
Mountain Homecoming of the Atlanta Ballet, which will feature traditional
ballet, humorous repartee and a dance of dark, exotic tales the
week of Sept. 12-18.
Throughout the weeklong residency, dancers and staff will provide in-school programs, conduct master classes for local dance students, and present an open rehearsal in the Beall Auditorium at Haywood Community College in Clyde from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16.
The week will conclude with two public performances at Haywood Community College at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17 and a matinee performance at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18. The program will include Belling the Slayer, one of the company’s more dramatic works, the Wedding Night Pas de Deux from Madam Butterfly, a classic tale of love and betrayal, a world premiere and a company premiere.
The world premiere of Sinfonietta Giocosa was choreographed by highly sought after young English choreographer Christopher Hampson. Hampson describes the piece as resembling a virtual 3-D jigsaw puzzle featuring six sets of male and female dancers.
Tink Tank, a company premiere, is a light, humorous piece choreographed by Vladimir Angelov that features six male dancers and one female dancer performing Bachí’s Concerto No. 5 in F Minor for piano and orchestra. The piece mixes a variety of dance styles including hip-hop, modern, and traditional forms of classical ballet.
