| << Back 9/7/05 LTLT director to discuss upper watershed SMN A presentation on the ecosystem, culture and biodiversity of the upper Little Tennessee River will be held at the Highlands Civic Center at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13. Brent Martin, associate director of the Land Trust of the little Tennessee, will be the speaker. The talk is being hosted by the Highlands Plateau Audubon Society. The Land Trust for the Little Tennessee is based in Franklin. Its objective is to preserve the river basin as a viable ecosystem. The Upper Little Tennessee begins in Dillard, Ga., and flows north to the Fontana Lake Reservoir. The Trust has been very successful in its first six years of operation, preserving 1,000 acres at 22 locations along the river and another 11,000 acres in partnership with other organizations. The presentation will share how this dynamic organization works and how its conservation principles can be applied elsewhere.
