Sunday series continues with guitarist Jeanne Naber
SMN

Singer and guitarist Jeanne Naber will perform at 3 p.m. on Sept. 18 at the Waynesville Public Library auditorium as part of the Haywood County Arts Council’s Sunday Concert Series. The concert is free, but donations are accepted.

Naber has been performing at weddings, festivals, and various venues for nearly 40 years. Her style of music ranges from the older country tunes by Patsy Cline, Willie Nelson, and Johnny Cash to the Eagles, James Taylor, Peter, Paul & Mary, Jimmy Buffett, and Anne Murray.

Naber first picked up a guitar in 1967 while living in Buffalo, N.Y., and soon began playing and singing at friendly get-togethers and family reunions. Before long, she was playing for church services and weddings — her first part-time job.

“My parents would drop me off at the church,” Naber explained, “and I would sing for two weddings, and they would come pick me up when I was done.”

She has performed for more than 150 weddings in her lifetime.

In 1978, her family moved to Hendersonville, where she continued to perform and sing throughout Western North Carolina and the Southeast including places such as The Biltmore Estate, Bele Chere, the Hendersonville Apple Festival, The Palm Beach Polo Club, The Smoky Mountain Railroad, and the Wheels Through Time Museum in Maggie Valley.

Naber now lives and works in and around Waynesville with current gigs at the Cataloochee Ranch, Bear’s Den Family Grill and Smackers Sports Grill in Maggie Valley, Pheasant Hill on Main Street in Waynesville, and the Deerfield Retirement Community in Asheville. Also, every first Friday, from 4-7p.m., she performs in front of the Haywood Animal Welfare Association’s resale shop, Off the Wall.

The Arts council’s Sunday Concert Series is co-sponsored with the Friends of the Library. For more information about the Sunday Concert Series and other arts programming, please call the Haywood County Arts Council at 828.452.0593 or visit the website at www.haywoodarts.org.
