Haywood Regional Medical Center raised $100,000 at this year’s 14th annual “Play for Health” Charitable Classic Golf & Gala. The golf fund-raising event was held Sept. 7 and 8 at Waynesville and Laurel Ridge Country Clubs.

More than 400 golfers played to raise money for Haywood Regional Medical Center’s Hospice program. Lead sponsors were Wells Funeral Homes and Cremation Services and Phyllis Prevost.

Proceeds from this year’s gala will support HRMC’s Hospice initiatives to build a new facility. The money raised will provide the resources needed to fulfill the growing needs for bereavement counseling, family coaching, volunteer training, palliative care for chronically ill patients and other services related to end-of-life care. The $100,000 will go toward the estimated $800,000 needed to construct Phase I of the new hospice building.
