Pamela Duncan, author of the novel Moon Women, will be at City Lights Bookstore
in downtown Sylva on Saturday, Oct. 20, at 7 p.m. for a reading and
booksigning.
Set in Madison County, Moon Women tells the story of three generations
of women in the Moon family, brought together under one roof for a variety
of reasons. Just as Ruth Ann (Moon) Payne has finally got her life all
neat and tidy, she is confronted with family needs she cannot deny.
Her teenage daughter, Ashley, who had run away from home, returns pregnant
and needs a place to live. Her aging mother, Marvelle Moon, is increasingly
forgetful and can no longer live alone. Although Ruth Ann takes them
in, its an uneasy situation. This moving story of how they settle
in is beautifully written, full of humor and sadness, memories and dreams.
The book has been highly praised by reviewers and fellow novelists alike.
Lee Smith says, Reading Moon Women is like falling into a feather
bed — youll want to snuggle in, settle down and stay right
where you are until you have turned the last wonderful page. And
Jill McCorkle says that Pamela Duncan has a vast wisdom when it
comes to the twists and turns of the human heart.
Duncan was born in Asheville and grew up in Western North Carolina.
She now lives in Graham county and is working on a second novel.
