Eco-friendly businesses to be recognized by CCC

SMN

The Commission for a Clean County (CCC) is sponsoring its second annual Business and Community Awards Program.

Last year, the program recognized and honored Haywood County businesses that demonstrated outstanding commitment to promoting a clean and healthy environment. This year, the competition is being expanded to include community clubs displaying outstanding efforts to build clean, attractive community areas. This means using innovative practices for litter control, recycling, waste minimization, pollution prevention and beautification strategies.

Last year’s co-sponsors were Haywood Vocational Opportunities and Joey’s Pancake House. For information on how to become a co-sponsor, call JoAnna Swanson, CCC secretary, at 452.1550.

Winners will receive a plaque and certificates. There may be up to four winners. Along with the CCC Board, included as judges are David Landt of HVO and Robert Hill, executive director of the Haywood County Chamber of Commerce. All entries must be submitted by Oct. 18. An entry form will be printed in The Smoky Mountain News Oct. 9 and may be used as an official form. Forms also may be obtained at the Chamber office at 1482 Russ Ave., Waynesville (in the Honka log home model) and at the Maggie Valley Visitor Center, 2487 Soco Rd., Maggie Valley.
