Birds: Migration is slowing but there are still some good days and winter residents are beginning to show up.

° Rose-breasted grosbeak, ruby-throated hemmingbird, indigo bunting, Swainson’s thrush, Tennessee warbler, common yellowthroat, palm warbler, eastern phoebe, eastern wood pewee, empidonax sp., chipping sparrow and bobolink (along Little Tennessee River @ suspension bridge on Needmore Road, Wally Foutch & Don Hendershot, 10/6)

° Solitary sandpiper, red-tailed hawk, blue grosbeak, rose-breasted grosbeak, indigo bunting, bobolink, white-eyed vireo, palm warbler, yellow-rumped warbler, American pipit and swamp sparrow ( Ferguson fields, Wally Foutch & Don Hendershot, 10/6)

° Cooper’s hawk, common nighthawk, Swainson’s thrush, wood thrush, Blue-headed vireo, Philadelphia vireo, yellow-throated vireo, red-eyed vireo, blue-winged warbler, golden-winged warbler, Tennessee warbler, Nashville warbler, northern parula, chestnut-sided warbler, magnolia warbler, black-throated blue warbler, black-throated green warbler, blackburnian warbler, prairie warbler, bay-breasted warbler, black-and-white warbler, American redstart, ovenbird, northern waterthrush, common yellowthroat, hooded warbler, Wilson’s warbler, (Jackson Park in Hendersonville, reported from Carolina Birds listserv 10/11)


Butterflies: Many butterflies are still out enjoying this Indian summer.
