Fall harvest hayride in Cades Cove
SMN

Join a park ranger for an evening haywagon ride through Cades Cove in Great Smoky Mountains National Park during the Fall Harvest Hayride Program Wednesday, Oct. 23, through Satur-day, Oct. 26.

Amidst the preserved 19th and early 20th century farming community, park staff, dressed in period costume, will make stories come alive of those people and events of long ago through planned activities staged along the Cades Cove Loop Road. Par-ticipants will learn about the history of the cove and hear about some of the legends and lore that were traditional, particularly around Halloween.

“We invite the public to enjoy these stories and the night sights and sounds of the cove as they leisurely ride around the one-way loop road,” said park ranger Rebecca Vial.

Guided hayrides will leave from the Cades Cove Riding Stables at 7 p.m., 7:30 p.m., 8 p.m., and 8:30 p.m. nightly. The program will last about two hours and will be conducted regardless of weather conditions unless deemed unsafe. Advance reservations are required and can be made by calling the Cades Cove Riding Stables at 865.448.6286. The cost is $8 per person and free for children under age 2.
