Southern Appalachian Man and the Biosphere is a cooperative whose mission is to foster a harmonious relationship between people and the Southern Appalachian environment and promote the environmental health and stewardship of natural, economic and cultural resources. It encourages community-based solutions to critical regional issues through public and private cooperation, bringing together state and federal natural resource agencies, university researchers, environmental advocacy clubs and non-profit conservation groups.
