The Western Carolina University Concert Choir and Early Music
Ensemble are packing their bags for their annual fall concert tour
Oct. 30-Nov. 3.
The annual tour to high schools, communities and churches will begin with a performance in Sylva at the First Baptist Church at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 30, followed later that evening by a performance at 7 p.m. in Salisbury at the Christiana Lutheran Church.
Monday, Oct. 31, will entail performances in Denver at East Lincoln High School and Gastonia at Forestview High School. On Tuesday, Nov. 1, the groups will perform at Crest High School in Boiling Springs and Kings Mountain High School, both located in Cleveland County. The tour will conclude Thursday, Nov. 3, with the annual “home concert” in the Coulter Building recital hall on the WCU campus. The 8 p.m. concert is free and open to the public.
The Concert Choir, directed by Robert Holquist, professor of music and director of choral activities at WCU, has 50 members and is accompanied by Sarah Reneer. The Early Music Ensemble, also directed by Holquist, is an a cappela group composed of 16 vocalists selected from the concert choir.
The repertoire for the Concert Choir is a mixture of folk, spiritual, traditional and modern selections. The Early Music Ensemble will perform madrigals and traditional Christmas selections.
