| << Back 10/7/09 Inaugural Pumpkinfest to benefit land trust SMN The Highlands-Cashiers Land Trust will hold its first ever family fall Pumpkinfest from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10. Choose a pumpkin from the patch and carve it on-site at the pumpkin carving stations and then enter in the pumpkin-carving contest. Three grand prize ribbons will be awarded for “Scariest,” “Most Original” and “Best Overall.” Free hayrides through the 56 acres will be running throughout the day for all to enjoy. Appalachian Storyteller, Lara Chew, will delight young and old with her tales of days gone by. There also will be hominy and apple cider press demonstrations, cloggers, goats, facepainting a giant pumpkin demo(lition) and more including the Humane Society’s Adopt-a-pet station. Tickets will be $20 per family or carload at the door or can be purchased in advance at a reduced rate of $15 by calling HCLT at 828.526.1111 or by emailing julie.hitrust@earthlink.net. To get to the David Farm from Highlands, take Highway 64 East for 3.5 miles and the entrance will be on your left across from Community Bible Church. The farm is located 7 miles from the Crossroads in Cashiers, on your right. Look for the HCLT Pumpkinfest banner. Highlands-Cashiers Land Trust has been preserving local lands for 100 years.
